First look at proposed terrace housing for Pyrmont

21-Jun-2016

Pyrmont residents have had their first chance to view and provide feedback about a proposed development of 15 low-rise terrace houses on a vacant car park between Harris and Mount Streets.

The 2,300 square metre site is on the south-western side of The Terminus Hotel, which was sold recently after laying dormant for 30 years.

Residents were given details about the development from TWT Property Group and invited to ask questions of the project architects, landscapers, planners, traffic consultants and public art experts.

New Life/Pyrmont has been designed by Tzannes Architects to reinstate the historic terrace streetscape on Harris Street. The material palette proposed includes sandstone excavated from the site, and reflects the area’s heritage.

The terraces will be two storeys facing Harris Street and three levels facing Mount Street, and designed to align with the existing parapet heights. They will have sloping roofs and dormer windows, underground parking for each terrace, and significant public art.

Existing trees on Harris and Mount Streets will be retained, and additional trees planted and landscaping added.

The feedback from residents will form a ‘Summary of Outcomes Report’ to be submitted with the Development Application to the City of Sydney Council. The DA will then be placed on public exhibition for a minimum of 30 days.

Subject to approval, the project could start in early 2017.

The General Manager of TWT, Stephen Fitzpatrick, said he was pleased with the level of feedback from residents. “Our plans have been meticulously conceived to bring new life to this site, and we believe the design fits seamlessly within the neighbourhood and is a great improvement on the derelict, weed-filled carpark,” he said.

Nearby, at 495 Harris Street, TWT is also developing New Life/Ultimo.

“Our company is committed to art and architecture, and our residential vision comes from a desire to provide open, flexible, creative living environments. Each of our developments must be inspired places in which to live,” said Mr Fitzpatrick.
