Leading child protection charity Barnardos Australia says a $20,000 donation from property developer Auswin TWT will help feed, clothe and educate children in need, and provide much-needed support to their parents.

“Donations like this make such a difference to disadvantaged children and families in the Sydney metropolitan area,” said Natasha Weir, manager of Barnardos Intensive Family Support program.

Barnardos has five full-time case workers in its Intensive Family Support service which builds and maintains relationships between children, their families and the community. Without such help these children would be at risk of harm.

“Many of these families have been affected by physical and mental health issues, domestic violence, sexual assault, drug and alcohol, housing stress and financial strain,” said Ms Weir. “When families are in crisis poor behaviour can escalate and it’s the children who suffer.”

The donation is part of Auswin TWT’s financial commitment to charitable organisations, which includes Lifeline and its Bridging Hope Charity Foundation.

“We are in awe of the dedication shown by Barnardos in doing everything possible to keep families together and prevent children from entering the foster care system,” said the General Manager of Auswin TWT, Stephen Fitzpatrick. “Barnardos believes in never giving up, and we are honoured to be able to play a small role in offering support to local communities.”

While Auswin TWT is active developing residential property, it has a strong social conscience. “We don’t just build places for people to live, we want to improve people’s lives, so we are committed to helping communities and support networks,” said Gavin Zhang, Director of Auswin TWT.
